On January 21, 2025, at approximately 6:48 p.m., the North Com Dispatch Center received a report of a possible fire in the 400 block of S. Citrus Ln. in Escondido and dispatched a structure fire response. The first arriving engine reported a single-story, single-family residence with light smoke coming from the roof. Due to the potential for the fire to spread and the threat to life and property, a working fire upgrade was requested.
The firefighters aggressively contained and controlled a chimney fire that had extended into the attic in approximately 20 minutes. The home sustained minor fire damage to the living room and roof area. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Four fire engines, one truck company, one rescue ambulance, and two Battalion Chiefs responded to the fire.
2 adults were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross. A gift card from the California Fire Foundation was provided for immediate emergency aid to the residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Safety Message: Have chimneys inspected regularly by licensed and trained professionals.
