Historic Preservation Resources

  • Escondido Historic Survey - completed in 1990 and updated in 2001 - identifies properties 50 years or older at the time of the survey. These historic survey books are inside City Hall and available for viewing at the Planning Counter.
  • Escondido Local Register of Historic Resources - historically significant properties included in the historic survey. Local Register listing is voluntary.
  • Article 40: Historical Resources - zoning code section dealing with historic properties throughout the city.
  • Article 65: Old Escondido Neighborhood - zoning code section that applies to all properties within the Old Escondido Historic District.
  • Design Guidelines for Homeowners of Historic Resources (PDF) - provides design criteria applicable to all local register structures located through the city and all structures, new and existing, in the Old Escondido Neighborhood.
  • "How to Research Your Historic Escondido Home" brochure published by the Escondido History Center - provides guidance for conducting property research.
